The Tasmanian Parliamentary Papers - 1856 to 1901 database includes all Parliamentary Papers tabled during this period, in either the House of Assembly or the Legislative Council, and ordered to be printed.
A Parliamentary Paper is a document that has been formally tabled in the Tasmanian Parliament (either in the House of Assembly or the Legislative Council) and ordered to be printed. Parliamentary Papers include reports from Royal Commissions, budget papers, annual reports from government departments as well as reports prepared for the members of either house by experts, delegation, petitions and committees.
The presentation of a document to a house of Parliament is called tabling. The tabling of documents by the Presiding Officer, Ministers, Members and the Clerk occurs almost every sitting day. Not all tabled papers are ordered to be printed.
There can be more than one session in a calendar year.
In the lists provided on these pages the first session will just be the paper number and year, if there are multiple sessions in a year papers in the appropriate session will be prefixed by S1 or S2 etc. For example in 1877 there were four sessions in the year with the last paper published having the number S4-63 of 1877.
